Days 23-29: Yachats, Oregon

Once again we set off for Crater Lake.  But first a stop in Eugene to see Cam's birthplace!  On the way there he called up some old friends of his parents (whom he hadn't seen in years and years), and they enthusiastically asked if they could take us to dinner.  We ate at a lovely place called Mazzi's (a favorite of C.'s mom) and had a more than lovely time.

As we were parting, Becky said, "It's a shame you aren't going to be here longer.  We have a nice little beach house you could stay in."  We smiled and thanked them and said maybe next time.  We were, after all, off to Crater Lake.

But we got to thinking... and finally called the Crater Lake ranger.  The report was that there were so many feet of snow around the rim of the lake that we would never be able to camp there, and would only be able to get a glimpse of it if we were willing to trudge through feet of snow.  One more phone call, and we were off to the beach house!

Five lovely days and nights at Becky and Jim's beach house felt like paradise.  It is situated near the most perfect, misty, sandy beach, and less than a mile from wonderful tide pools.  Every day was filled with discovery and relaxation.  They were so generous to offer it to us (absolutely free of charge) and we felt providence smiling.

Sand castles.  Frisbee on the beach.  Reading.  Tide pools.  Hike to a light house.  And spectacular all-American sunsets.

The misty beach --- on a less misty day

Hardly any people on the beach ever!  A lovely private week.

Incredible reflections.

Figures in the mist in the distance.

Bird.

M. excited to get her feet wet after all that hiking.

Sunset 1

Same sunset a little later, and a flock of geese!

A view during our hike to the light house.

Could use a little upkeep, perhaps

Our last sunset there.  We were glad we didn't miss it.

Some tide pools exploration

Reminiscent of Goblin Valley

Lovely color

Our masterpiece sandcastle.  (We'll post another up-close photo of it soon!)
